Created by Steven Knight, Tom Hardy and Chips Hardy, the television series ‘Taboo’ launched at the MIP TV market in Cannes. Sonar Entertainment asked Saynor Events to produce an event at Cannes’ Majestic Hotel to build anticipation and generate sales from international broadcasters.


As the show is set in the 1800s, we wanted to create a look and feel that evoked the period. We developed a striking save-the-date and invitation design, which reflected the visual impact of the show. This was carried through in the event styling with a black, gold and red colour palette and Regency-style touches. 

Guests walked the black carpet past large-scale graphics lit by candlelight. The screening room was draped in black with gilt frames, Regency-style chairs and chandeliers.

After an introduction from Tom and Chips Hardy and Steven Knight, the audience enjoyed a screening of a special cut of Episode 1, followed by a drinks reception.  To keep audience numbers smaller and create a more intimate and exclusive feel, two events were held back-to-back.

Sales of the show were agreed with several broadcasters in the following weeks. And our invitation design was recognised with a 2017 PromaxBDA Global Excellence Promotion, Marketing and Design award.
